Team Madigan 2005 Prize Night

Team Madigan Cycling Club held their annual prize presentation in the Coast Road Hotel, Carrickfergus, on Saturday night the 22nd of October 2005. Jonathan Kyle from Carrickfergus was the outright winner in Team Madigan's 2005 Club Best all Rounder competition, as well as taking first places in the club's Senior Road Race and Time Trial BAR's.

Presenting the prizes to the riders was David Ross - who is secretary of the P&O Tour of the North, a Commissaire with the Northern Ireland Cycling Federation and Team Madigan's Race Secretary. Club sponsor and President Ronnie McKeegan of Madigan Cycles in Carrickfergus was also involved in the presentation. The former Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Track Team rider thanked all the riders and official's for supporting the club and it's events throughout the 2005 season. In his address at the club's 17th Prize Presentation Dinner he praised all those who helped with the John Lindsay memorial Torr Head Challenge Charity event and went on to report that to date ÂŁ3,500 has been raised for the Northern Ireland Hospice. He sated he was particularly pleased with the performances of Team Madigan riders in Northern Ireland Open Championships. He went on to say that the club took Team gold medals in the Open 10TT C'Ship through Mel McCann (6th), Paul Agnew (11th) and Albert Douglas 12th. They won individual medals plus Team gold medals in the Open 50TT C'Ship, this time Mel McCann was 2nd, Albert Douglas 3rd and Paul Agnew 7th.

In the Northern Ireland Veteran Time Trial Championships the club had riders in the top 10. In the 10TT Mel McCann was 2nd, Albert Douglas 3rd, and Alan Welsh 10th. In the 25TT Mel McCann was 2nd, Albert Douglas 3rd, and Davy Clarke 4th.

In the Northern Ireland Open Hill Climb Championship Colin McCluskey finished 6th overall.

The club was well represented at most of the Open Road Races throughout the year and Jonny Kyle who was in fine form all season finished in 3rd place in the season long Northern Ireland Road Race Best all Rounder competition, while Stephen Farr finished in 8th place.

Former Northern Ireland Road Race champion Davy Clarke rode superbly in the Veterans Road Race championship to finish in 3rd place.

In the club's own in house competition's, riders competed vigorously for the many trophies on offer! The most prestigious trophy being the Wright Family Cup, this is for the rider who finishes in first place in the Club overall Best all Rounder League in which all categories count. Jonathan Kyle from Carrickfergus won the cup, Albert Douglas (Carrick) and Paul Agnew (Larne) were equal second.

The next most prestigious and newest trophy the Tony Purnell Cup, which is presented to the best placed Team Madigan rider in the tough Madigan Cycles Grand Prix went to Gary McKeegan from Ballycarry. The Senior Time Trial BAR (Bobby Law Shield) was won by Jonathan Kyle, Paul Agnew was 2nd and Colin McCluskey from Islandmagee was 3rd. The Senior Road Race BAR Cup was won by Jonathan Kyle, Danny Hylands (Larne) was 2nd and Stephen Farr (Greenisland) was 3rd. The Ladies BAR (Tony & Liz Purnell Cup) was won by Claire Connor from Whitehead. The Veterans BAR Cup was won by Albert Douglas from Carrick, Mel McCann from Larne was 2nd and Davy Clarke from Larne was 3rd. Setting a club record for winning all the Time Trial Handicap Trophies in the same year was John Neill from Straid. John won the Club 10TT Cup, the John Lindsay memorial Crystal Clock Trophy, the Club 25TT Cup and he also won the Club Pursuits Series Shield. The H'Cap Road Race Cup was won by Ballyclare's Geoff McCrory. The Hill-Climb Cup was won by Gary McKeegan. The Under 16 BAR Shield was won by Conor Clarke from Larne. The Under 12 BAR Shields were won by Larne's Ty Mackness 1st, Scott Hylands (Larne) 2nd and Adam Stuart (Carrickfergus) 3rd. The Mountain Bike Time Trial Cup was won by Larne's Paul Agnew. The Mountain Bike League Shields were won by Larne's Danny Hylands 1st, Geoff Swann (Greenisland) 2nd, and Bill Mackness (Larne) 3rd. Under 14 MTB League Larne's Darren McGuckin 1st. Under 10 MTB League Ty Mackness 1st. Under 8 MTB League Scott Hylands 1st.
